This sitka spruce/rosewood 12-string was built for a local player/collector. We started out talking about building a 6-string, but soon came to the realization that his early 70's Guild was in great shape, played like a dream and sounded sweet -- so maybe a 12-string would be a better choice. The end result is a guitar similar to #3. The vine headstock inlay was expanded (exponentially!) to originate from the outer rosette ring and run nearly the length of the fretboard. The soundhole rosette itself is a custom design consisting of two abalone rings separated by a ring of burl walnut. This is the first guitar I've built with a Florentine cutaway which becomes the third available cutaway option. Since the guitar would be played solo fingerstyle, I recommended that it be strung with two light gauge 6-string sets with strings ranging from .012"-.053" and tuned down one full step. This guarantees a wound A octave string, a personal preference of mine, and an overall warmer tone. It's necessary to buy two additional plain strings, a .011 or .012 for the G octave and a .016 for the D octave. Anyone wanting more details on the string set should send me an e-mail and I'll be glad to clear up any confusion I've left in my wake.
